Cascina Corte is the small, organically farmed estate of Sandro Barosi and Amalia Battaglia, tucked into the hills of Dogliani in southern Piedmont. Having rescued an abandoned farmhouse and its surrounding vineyards in 2001, the couple have built a reputation for honest, characterful wines that celebrate the region's traditional varieties. Their approach is refreshingly hands-off, allowing the fruit and vineyard to do the talking.

San Luigi is 100% Dolcetto, grown on limestone-rich soils in the hills surrounding the estate. Juicy black cherry, ripe raspberry and plum are joined by violet, wild herbs and a little earthy spice. There's lovely generosity to the fruit, balanced by gentle, slightly rustic tannins and a subtle bitter almond character. Medium-bodied, vibrant and beautifully approachable, with a fresh, savoury finish and plenty of old-school Piedmontese charm. A proper everyday Italian red that's made for the dinner table.
