2021 Giacomo Marchiori 'Spanna' Nebbiolo
Place: Piedmont, Italy
Variety: Nebbiolo
Farming: Organic
Giacomo Marchiori established his small estate in 2015 in Cossato, in the northern reaches of Piedmont. Farming approximately 1.5 hectares of historic vineyards across Coste della Sesia, he works with old-vine Nebbiolo, known locally as Spanna. Traditional maceration, minimal intervention and restrained oak ageing produce wines that reflect the region's alpine influence, distinctive soils and naturally elegant expression of Nebbiolo.
Spanna comes from old vines in the historic vineyards of Castellengo and Mottalciata. Red cherry and cranberry are layered with dried rose, liquorice root, blood orange and subtle earthy spice. Finely structured and mineral-driven, the palate combines vibrant acidity with firm, dusty tannins and delicate savoury complexity. Elegant yet distinctly energetic, the wine finishes long, precise and persistent.
