2021 Cascina Corte Langhe Nebbiolo
Place: Langhe - Piedmont, Italy
Variety: Nebbiolo
Farming: Organic
Cascina Corte is the small, organically farmed estate of Sandro Barosi and Amalia Battaglia, tucked into the hills of Dogliani in southern Piedmont. Having rescued an abandoned farmhouse and its surrounding vineyards in 2001, the couple have built a reputation for honest, characterful wines that celebrate the region's traditional varieties. Their approach is refreshingly hands-off, allowing the fruit and vineyard to do the talking.
Their Langhe Nebbiolo is 100% Nebbiolo, grown on limestone and blue tufa soils in the hills surrounding Dogliani. Fragrant red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate are joined by dried rose petals, violet, earthy spice and a little black tea. There's lovely depth and maturity to the fruit, balanced by fresh acidity and fine, silky tannins. Elegant and beautifully approachable, with a gentle savoury edge and a long, earthy finish. A wonderfully charming expression of Nebbiolo that delivers plenty of Piedmontese character without the austerity.
