2024 Joshua Cooper 'Balgownie Old Vines' Cabernet Sauvignon
Place: Balgownie Vineyard - Bendigo, VIC
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Farming: Sustainable
Joshua Cooper has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting voices in modern Australian wine, with a particular affinity for Cabernet and the great old vineyards of Central Victoria. His approach is thoughtful and site-driven, using restrained winemaking to capture purity, structure and the individual character of each vineyard.
Balgownie Old Vines comes from Cabernet planted in 1970 at the historic Balgownie vineyard in Bendigo. Cassis and dark cherry are layered with violet, graphite, cedar and subtle leafy spice, with a distinctive mineral, savoury edge running underneath. Concentrated yet remarkably light on its feet, fine, tightly woven tannins and bright acidity bring freshness and precision through a long, perfumed finish. Powerful without weight, it’s a beautifully refined expression of old-vine Victorian Cabernet.
