2023 Jean Foillard Morgon 'Cote du Puy'
Place: Morgon - Beaujolais, France
Variety: Gamay
Farming: Organic
Jean Foillard is one of the defining growers of modern Beaujolais and a key figure in the region’s return to traditional, low-intervention winemaking. Based in Morgon, he farms old-vine Gamay across the celebrated Côte du Py, working with whole bunches, native yeasts and a gentle approach in the cellar to produce wines renowned for their perfume, silky texture and remarkable ability to age.
The 2023 Côte du Py comes from old vines rooted in the site’s distinctive granite and schist soils. Dark cherry and blackberry are layered with violets, cracked pepper, subtle spice and a stony mineral edge. The palate has impressive depth while remaining beautifully lifted, with fine, silky tannins and bright acidity carrying the wine through a long, savoury and mineral finish.
