2019 Sette Nizza DOCG
Place: Monferrato — Piedmont, ITA
Variety: Barbera
Farming: Organic
Sette is a splendid vineyard in Nizza, Monferrato, with five and a half hectares of vines aged between 20 and 75 years old. Purchased in 2017 by friends Gianluca Colombo and Gino Della Porta, they set about converting the property to organic farming immediately. Whilst a great array of fruit trees can be found throughout the vineyard, commitment has been made to plant more than 40 old tree varieties of local fruit and tall trees per year.
The ‘Sette’ wines are produced with the older vine material whilst the younger vine fruit goes into the ‘Mille Millilitr’ 1L Bottles. This has to be one of the most exciting addresses in Monferrato right now, grandstanding the region through the frame of freshness, energy and vitality. Uplifting wines!
From 80 year old vines rich in limestone, silica, white chalk and silt. Vinifaction is traditional with fermentation occuring spontaneously and the grapes macerating under submerged cap for 42 days. Aging occurs in large oak and concrete.
Rich, round and ripe Barbera, this is a powerful expression of Nizza best served alongside hearty dishes.
