2024 William Downie 'Cathedral' Pinot Noir
Place: Upper Goulburn, King Valley, Alpine Valleys, Mornington Peninsula, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
Farming: Sustainable
Expression of time and place is the ever elusive desire of the vigneron. Bill Downie has honed his craft over many vintages between Australia and France, experimenting unapologetically in constant search of purer expression.
The 2024 Cathedral is a blend of around 40% Upper Goulburn, 35% King Valley, 15% Alpine Valleys and 10% Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir. The season across southeastern Australia was, yet again, cool and wet early leading to another season of poor flowering and low yields. The second half of the season, however, was warm and dry giving wines of great depth, aroma and tannin.
Bill Downie has done it again! Plush, fragrant, red fruited Pinot Noir that is absurdly under priced & a sheer delight to drink.
