2023 Hurley Estate Pinot Noir
Place: Mornington Peninsula, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
Farming: Sustainable
Kevin Bell and Tricia Byrnes make expressive single vineyard pinot noirs from their Balnarring block that—although we try not to—have us drawing comparisons to Burgundy as these wines impress us with their finesse and power. Having said that, they speak with a distinctive Mornington accent, one that we love to hear.
This is a blend of wines from Lodestone, Hommage and Garamond which were harvested on 16, 25 and 24 March 2023 respectively. Bright ruby in colour. A complex assemblage of red fruits, rose petals and cold cooked meats on the nose. The palate is well-framed as are all the 2023 vintage wines. The palate is precise and focused with red fruits that are carried cleanly from front to back by a long, tight line of ripe acidity. The tannins are tight and feel ready to burst. It’s pretty and satisfying now but will uncoil into something deeper and richer in time.
