2021 Font De Joubert Côtes-du-Rhône Rhone Valley, France
Adjacent to Château Rayas' coveted Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard is a plot of 80-100-year-old Grenache and Syrah vines organically-farmed by the Charrier family. Predominantly Grenache with a soupçon of Syrah, this humble Côtes-du-Rhône is medium in build, elegant in structure and deeply concentrated courtesy of those wonderful old vines deeply rooted in sand.
2020 La Ferme Viticole 'Novesque' Syrah/Cabernet Provence, France
We were first introduced to Bastien Boutareaud six years ago by our mutual great friend: Brendan Keys (BK Wines) of Adelaide Hills notoriety. Like many great producers, Bastien was first a sommelier for more than ten years. His work took him on many trips through France and internationally (including Australia). Equal parts Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the perfect BBQ wine. Full-bodied but not heavy, we drink this slightly chilled alongside BBQ meats and vegetables in the sunshine.
2022 Bruno Lafon 'Collette' Pinot Noir Languedoc, France
From the same Bruno Lafon that makes some of Burgundy’s most revered wines from Domaine Comtes Lafon in Meursault comes an eminently guzzleable and perfect midweek pinot. We can’t all afford the starting prices of his $250/bottle Meursault, but we can enjoy his approachable and expressive pinot from the Languedoc. It’s all raspberry coulis brightness with a smattering of dusty tannins. It takes us straight to the south of France.
