We have never been more excited about Shiraz made in Australia with an elegant touch. This pack presents three wines that represent the perfumed, ethereal and spice driven purity of the Syrah grape. We hope you enjoy these three wines for their drinkability, weightlessness and dynamic pairability. Viva La Spice!
2023 Mahmood Fazal 'Kuhn' Pyrenees, VIC
Mahmood Fazal is an investigative journalist for the ABC and has no intentions of making more than one barrel of Shiraz each year. He fell in love with great wine, happened to move to the winemaking hub of central Victoria and, three years ago, began an annual cellarhand gig at famed Cobaw Ridge where he made this wine.
Khun means blood in Persian and is Mahmood’s homage to the dense, inky, powerful wines that Australia is globally known for, as well as the style of Shiraz Mahmood is most inclined toward. It is harvested late, macerated hard and aged long, resulting in a powerful yet elegant Shiraz.
2019 Syrahmi 'Angus' Heathcote, VIC
Chef turned sommelier turned winemaker, Adam Foster is a man of many talents and has turned his attention to the vineyard where he crafts exceptional, Rhone-inspired wines of stature and finesse.
From Adam: “Named after our second son Angus born 2019. What a vintage!!! I would say the greatest vintage I’ve seen in Heathcote since I started in 2003. 95% whole bunch from a certified organic vineyard. Wild ferment in concrete followed by two years in old French and Austrian oak.”
2021 Schmolzer & Brown 'Thorley' Beechworth, VIC
Tessa Brown and Jeremy Schmölzer are the husband-and-wife team thoughtfully farming in cool Beechworth. Their wines are characterful and honest expressions of their beautiful isolated pocket of Victoria.
Their Syrah is a benchmark of cool-climate expressions of this grape mostly grown in the hotter climes of the country. It’s spice-driven and delicate yet substantial at once. Reminiscent of the grape’s spiritual home, the Northern Rhône.
