2023 Harrison 'Fleur de Lune' Grenache
Place: Barossa Valley, SA
Variety: Grenache
Farming: Sustainable
Riley Harrison has been making wines in South Australia for a few years now, mostly under the banner of much-loved label Samuel's Gorge. With a background in viticulture but a growing love for winemaking, he's one to keep your eyes on. This is bottled under his own label where he gets to tinker with small batches of fruit from good growers around the state.
The fruit was harvested by hand on an ascending moon. Sourced from two vineyards established in the 1940's and 1960's. 70% whole bunch ferment and very gentle hand plunging. This grenache is characterised by its perfume; white flowers, Asian spices and something kind of savoury but kind of not. Silty, gypsum-like tannins provide the framework for the supple red fruited palate. As pretty as a flower, this wine is built for drinking.
