2021 Brave New Wine 'Batard' Sauvignon Blanc Great Southern, Wa
Organically farmed Sauvignon Blanc is fermented on skins for eight days then basket pressed to seasoned oak for a six-month slumber. So much going on: guava, green mango, jalapeno spice with a slightly grippy peach iced tea finish.
2021 The Other Right 'Sunshine On My Skin' Viognier Adelaide Hills, Sa
We absolutely adore the wines from The Other Right. Meticulously crafted by Alex Schulkin and Galit Shachaf from organically farmed grapes from the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale with no additions including sulphur. This year’s incarnation of Sunshine On My Skin is on the pure side, precise and delightful primary Viognier characters such as apricot, fenugreek, tangy persimmon and cardamom. Sunshine and a Pad Thai would upgrade any moment.
2021 Eleven Sons 'Tu Rigoles' Touriga Nacional and its Discontents Pyrenees, Vic
A lone block of organically farmed Touriga presides over a sea of Shiraz. Grown in the thin, gravelly, quartz-riddled soils of the Pyrenees. Potpurri, herbal, meaty. Serve with a slight chill.
2021 MDI Refosco Mildura, Vic
Kevin McCarthy travelled extensively across northern Italy in the late nineties to study their best Pinot Grigios, intensifying a fascination with the wines of Friuli. He, alongside wife and co-founder Kathleen Quealy, has bottled orange-hued bottles from Friulian grapes on the Mornington Peninsula for almost two two decades. Through their new and collaborative project, MDI (Murray-Darling Italian), they are taking it up another notch. Refosco produces deep, brooding and layered reds and MDI’s is all three in a slightly fresher frame.
2021 Mada Wines Pet Nat Tumbarumba, NSW
This is pet nat is made using Prosecco grape, Glera, from the Minutello Family vineyard in Tumbarumba, NSW. It’s fun, fresh, slurpy with green apple, smashed lime pulp and yuzu flavours.
2021 Edan Wines Sangiovese Mudgee, NSW
Sustainably farmed Sangiovese from Mugee that sees 25% carbonic maceration and 30% new oak. Expect a full flavoured, juicy red with violets and blue fruits that could also do with a light chill in the warmer months, not in the cooler months.
