Region: Gippsland, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
Expression of time and place is the ever elusive desire of the vigneron. Bill Downie has honed his craft over many vintages between Australia and France, experimenting unapologetically in constant search of purer expression. Well and truly settled in bucolic Gippsland and producing wine of uncompromising quality, he has honed his focus to the alluring charms of Pinot Noir. These wines speak earnestly of where they are from and with Bill’s critical palate, the wines only ever improve. A superb, limited release.
Almost transparent colour doesn't bespeak a lack of anything. Au contraire, for this has a lip-smacking strawberry milkshake quality that is incredibly moreish. The berries don't see much sunlight like Howie from Benchwarmers as their canopies fan out generously. Fine tannins. Great length. Wonderfully fresh.
