The new incarnation of our Pizza Rosso Pack, showcasing Red Wines Made for a Pizza Party and Isolated good times...
Pizza and Pasta with red sauce bases, the corner stone of any isolation diet needs a dance partner, this is it!
Here are 6 Red wines that we are loving (and drinking) in immense volume, accompanied by our favorite local Italian Take-away.
2019 Chateau Fontareche Carignan, Mourvedre, Corbieres (Fra)
We recently enjoyed this over a staff meeting at DITC HQ. The Bottle did not last long. Old Vine Carignan makes up most of the blend (40%) withe the remainder being Mourvedre. Perfume and lift in this wine aromatically but with earthiness and a certain dangerous amount of moorishness that makes these bottles disappear quickly.
2019 Fontaleoni Chianti Sangiovese, Tuscany (Ita)
Chianti in all it's rustic, red fruited, chewy tannin glory. A wine made to have with pizza while the mind takes a flight to the hills of Tuscany where it came from.
2017 Dub Style #12 Remix Mataro, Grenache, McLaren Vale (Sa)
hahahaa Dub Style...The wine is delicious, so delicious that we have forgiven the 'marketing' and name.
2019 Quinta Milu Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero (Esp)
Milú ‘Milú, the doubled named wine from the tiny Quinta Milú winery, is a blend of several parcels between 25 and 50 years of age dotted around the township of Aguilera. Aguilera means 'Eagles Nest,' the town itself is perched on an outcrop of limestone that overlooks much of the surrounding Duero valley, many of these vineyards sitting above 800m, This extra altitude and the proximity of limestone bedrock to the vines roots helps to stamp these wines with added structure, minerality and freshness. It's important to know this because it tastes...like this. Mineral crunch from vineyards with altitude!
2016 SC Pannell 'Tanino' Malbec, Shiraz, McLaren Vale (Sa)
We are long time card holders of the Steve Pannell fan club. He straddles many varieties with ease, coaxing all the charachter and energy out of a variety or site that he can. In this case we have mostly Malbec, which is splashed with some Shiraz, Touriga Nacional and Tinata Ca. It's flesh, juicy and just waiitng to be the supporting role to a take-away pizza or sunny day's BBQ.
2019 Il Farneto 'Giandon' Rosso Marzemino, Emilia Romagna (Ita)
A recent revelation of a producer, introduced to us by Michael from Quelvino who imports these wines. Organically farmed, untampered with, and so so delicious, this is made from Malbo Gentile, Lambrusco, and Marzemino grapes. A superb medium bodied red wine that has us fist pumping the air with every sip.
