Summer has arrived and with the change in season and that big ball of flames in the sky starting to come out more often than it did, it might mean a change in hue in our wine glass. Thanks for the warming reds winter but this pack is all about fresh, brilliant white wine, made for sunny sea sides and balmy nights!
2020 Frankland Estate Gruner Veltliner, Frankland River (Wa)
Only one barrel of this organically farmed Gruner Veltliner was produced. There might not be much quantity, but there is an explosion of flavour quality! This native Austrian grape has been handled superbly by the team at Frankland Estate who have a penchant for the Austro-German leanings of the vinous world. A triumph!
2020 Guthrie 'Mondo' Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills (Sa)
Hugh Guthrie is in peak form and this Sauvignon is testament to that. Coming from a single vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, the majority o the fruit is then fermented wild in barrel, creating a textural and smoke-laden sauvignon that defies the ‘crisp and tropical’ stereotype of the variety from this region. More weight in the mouth and more delicious energy!
2020 Trutta Marsanne, Bendigo (Vic)
Everyone’s favourite High plains fly fisherman is back with a slew of fantastic releases for 2021. This Marsanne was born from sandy granitic loam soils inthe Harcourt Valley. This valley shares many similarities with the Rhone Valley, especially in soil profile, where Marsanne has it’s spiritual home. Taste’s like apricot, lemon curd, grapefruit and zingy citrus pith. Delicious.
2020 Brave New Wine 'Sunshine & Hercules' Riesling, Great Southern (Wa)
From Mount Barker in Australia’s South-West corner, this Riesling spent a tiny amount of time on skins before finishing ferment with a combination ofceramic eggs and new French oak. Unfiltered and unfined it has a cloudy finish and moreish appeal.
2019 Vino di Tavolo Bianco, Central Victoria (Vic)
Sustainably grown by the good people at Chalmers, this is the kind of wine you would expect to drink on the Italian Coastline, paired with fresh shellfish pasta and a sunset. Fresh, textural and always appropriate.
2019 Gorrondona Txakoli, Basque Country (Esp)
Made from the traditional Basque varietals Hondurabi Zuri (85%) with little bits of Iskirita Zuri Hadia (15%), this is organically farmed and seriously made. A long way from the tourist fodder poured from great height in tiny bars along the lanes of San Sebastian, this is textural, concentrated and with mineral drive.
