Pinot Gnar Noir
Brendon and Kirsty Keys run one of the all time winemaking outfits of Australia from their castle perched atop of a rocky outcrop in the Adelaide Hill's Basket Range.
The winery is a hub of creativy, Passion, fun and oenological wonder.
The wines get better with every vintage as relationships with growers endure, lessons learnt from the North return home and winemaking shows ever increasing restraint.
Pinot Noir is religion in the Keys household, and these three wines highlight just how exciting this Address is in the Adealide Hills is. It includes the Single Barrel "Remy" Pinot Noir (usually $99)
2019 Skin n' Bones Pinot Noir
Four Pinot Noir clones (predominantly MV6), 30 days on skins, 10% new French oak for six months.
An exceedingly low-yielding vintage has produced a truly elegant, fresh Burgundian-style wine. Smokey and driven by spice with a richer profile than we’ve seen in recent vintages. Power and presence is thoroughly balanced with finesse and length. This polished Pinot Noir is complete, finished, and delightfully savoury. A vintage favourite. - Notes from the winemaker, Brendan Keys
2019 Gower Pinot Noir
100% Lenswood Pinot Noir, handpicked, 100% whole bunch, wild-yeast fermentation, one month on skins, 10 months in 25% new French oak, unfiltered & unfined, only 200 dozen made.
There are so many ways to describe classic Pinot Noir that can give a person a brief pause… earth, compost, mushroom… we’ve heard worse. And yet, how do you adequately grasp in words the allure of this substantive yet seductive grape? It is corporeal with an overlay of the ethereal. Think hot day, cotton shirt, hoisting the mainsail with just a hint of cologne on the collar remaining from the morning. 2019 was a warm year and Gower wears the season on its sleeve – black tea and freshly pestled cumin alongside bold, vibrant fruit on the back palate. Silky tannins that build and build cut by a refreshing acidic line. - Notes from the winemaker, Brendan Keys
100% Lenswood Pinot Noir, wild yeasts, 15 months in 100% new French oak, only 240 bottle produced.
This is everything you want from whole-bunch Pinot Noir – super aromatic, plush tannic structure, strawberries and cream at the core with lightly smoky, leatherbound-books-and-mahogany-desk edges. It could easily be mistaken for a Nuits-Saint-Georges in its well-bred balance of power and prettiness. The label is Picasso-esque in its deconstruction, reflecting a personality whose connection to emotion is both direct and ever-changing. Remy is immediately expressive and likely to solve the most profound of problems.
