Ravensworth is thoughtfully managed through and through. All matters are given careful consideration and this is abundantly apparent in their wine. Based in Murrumbateman thirty minutes north of Canberra, it’s cold-climate and ancient granitic soils produce wine of purity and expression. Their ethos is rooted in seeing their vineyards as part of a greater whole, rather than standalone plants of aesthetic proportion. Naturally, permaculture is paramount and they encourage a diverse ecology to emulate the forest environment wherein the vine vied for its survival, its roots burrowing deeper into the mineral-rich soils underfoot. Save for a little Italian tractor, machinery in the vineyard is kept to a minimum. Wonderful examples of wines from the region.
‘A very layered and textural wine, lots going on here: Viognier dominant this year, pear, quince and ginger but plenty of Marsanne's vulgarity and Roussanne's precise beauty. A fine acid line underlies a fine yet rich palate with loads of flavour persisting.’ - note from the winemaker, Brian Martin
