Region: Macedon Ranges, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
This cuvee comes from several parcels across our small vineyard with densities between 12,000 and 14,500 vines/ha. The plant material in 2019 included MV6, 777 and 667. Roughly 50% whole bunch was used in 2019. It underwent natural fermentation in tank before going to 500- and 600-litre Stockinger casks for malo and aging.
Throughout the aging of the wines, this cuvée was always the most fine-boned and red-fruited. But don’t be misled: although it is attractive to drink, it has ample stuffing and structure for long aging. The latent power of the wine is expressing itself more and more as the wine sits in bottle. It could well shut down for a period in the coming months. We’ll see. We consider this the equal of the other two wines in the range and, to be frank, I regret not pricing it accordingly—if only because a lower price gives people the wrong impression!
No fining or filtration. Minimal SO2. Bottled by gravity, February 2020. 1,321 bottles produced.
