Massimiliano Croci has been an under the radar but well loved fixture in Italy's natural wine circles for years. He is a quiet farmer dedicated to the historic bottle re-fermented sparkling wines of his region.Distinct terroir is at play in his organic vineyards in Piacenza, Emilia Romagna. His vines are planted on a formation of fossilized seabeds full of sand & limestone fossils giving his wines there distinctive minerality & structure.
His LUBIGO bottling is 100% Ortrugo, one of Emilia Romagna’s native gems. It sees 10 days of skin contact & ferments in concrete tanks over winter. In the Spring the wine is bottled under a waning moon & re-fermentation begins naturally leaving delicious gentle bubbles. As per tradition, it’s not disgorged allowing the wine to evolve on the yeasts. This is an absolutely delicious traditional sparkling from one of the masters of the style that also offers incredible value!
