Region: Corbieres - Languedoc, FRA
Variety: Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc
In 2002, Burgundy native Maxime Magnon settled in the Corbières region and more precisely in Villeneuve-les-Corbières. Before that he worked with Jean Foillard, Philippe Valette and Thierry Allemand, three big names! All grapes are manually harvested in to small crates and taken to a cold room before being whole bunch fermented at ambient temperature in open top casks using only indigenous yeasts. Following the fermentation the wines are élevaged in either cement tanks or old barrels (from Burgundy) before being bottled without fining or filtration.
This is produced from 90% Grenache Gris and 10% Grenache Blanc. Stylistically these channel Ganevat if you can believe that, they have similar cut and verve - piercingly fresh and floral with faint hints at nashi pear and stone, the fact that the grapes were grown at altitude keeps this wine tight, fine and mineral. In fact you could be forgiven for thinking that this had a good slug of the finest Chablis in it such is it's moreish flavour and mineral nature. This is superb. - Notes from the importer
