Region: Riverland, SA
Mallaluka is a family affair in the Canberra district of NSW. These estate-grown wines are made by second generation vigneron Sam Leyshon who has most recently learnt to ply his trade assisting Bryan Martin and Tim Kirk at Clonakilla. These are modern wines that reflect the changing face of this exciting region. He makes wines with a wild side, they are made with minimal intervention and are insane value for money.
Normally sourced from around Canberra however in 2020, Sam lost all his fruit so went searching for fruit. He found this organic block of Vermentino and turned it into something special.
Completely de-stemmed and fermented on skins in one tonne open top vats using indigenous yeasts. Hand plunged twice daily, pressed off into stainless steel vats, then settled for 3 months. No fining or filtration used. Almond, green olive and the sea. Conservative autumn fruits, subtle yet persistent texture.
