Region: Gaillac, FRA
Variety: Duras, Merlot
Damien Bonnet inherited the 10Ha Domaine de Brin estate in 2008 where previously his father used to make wines for the local cooperative. He champions indigenous Gaillac grape varieties with excellent results.
Fully biodynamic and observes biodiversity in the vineyard. All harvesting is by hand, only wild yeast fermentations are carried out, and minimal if any sulphur is used only at the bottling stage. There is an ongoing programme of weeding of the rows and working of the soil between the vine stock, reflecting Damien's commitment to the health of his vineyards.
The nose delivers plums and blackcurrants, freshly turned soil and dried herbs. The palette follows nicely, framed by polished tannins and a bracing acidity. Spice, earth, smoke and coffee bean linger on a long fresh finish.
