2018 Yann Bertrand Fleurie 'Cuvee Emile' 750mL
Region: Fleurie - Beaujolais, FRA
The Bertrand estate was established in the 1950’s by Louis Bertrand, located in a special part of Beaujolais called ‘Grand-Pré’. This section straddles the crus of both Fleurie and Morgon and is rich in sandy granitic soil. Now helmed by Louis’ son, Yann, whose philosophy is to attain the best balance possible for the soil, as soil in equilibrium will produce grapes that best represent the terroir. The complexities of the vineyard are demonstrated through each cuvee. These are pure wines that speak earnestly of time and place.
A cuvee only produced in exceptional years from the oldest vines; 70 – 100 year old; 20 days maceration; 7 months resting in used 500 and 600 litre demi-muid and an additional 11 months aging in bottle prior to release
‘Power and expressive fruit into heady aromas of roses. A harmonious palate with definition, a tingling spine of fruit and feathery tannins. Seductive and beautiful right now, it will age beautifully. If Helen Mirren was a wine this is it!’ - Notes from Liz Carey, Vivant Selections
