A collection of whites from Aussie producers we love—from light and crisp Fiano to full and generous Chardonnay, there's something for everyone.
2021 Stefano Lubiana Pinot Gris Derwent Valley, TAS
Biodynamically farmed Pinot Gris from Tasmania’s Derwent Valley. Incredibly aromatic - think pear, rose water and honeysuckle. The colour, don’t be surprised if the wine is a touch pink, it’s meant to be. The wines see a touch of skin contact to give the wine texture, making it a perfect accompaniment to green curry or something with a little heat.
2021 Unico Zelo 'Slate Farm' Fiano Clare Valley, SA
This is one of three single-site Fianos they produce and the most generous of the trio. Warm days in Polish Hill River develop riper fruit which is front and centre, but Fiano’s trademark brisk acidity keeps it all quite fresh. Great value and a gem at the table.
2019 Schmolzer & Brown 'Obstgarten K' Riesling King Valley, VIC
A single vineyard, Kabinett-style Riesling from the second highest altitude Riesling vineyard in Victoria: mature, unirrigated and close-planted vines on the Whitlands high plateau. This has pretty, spring floral aromatics with some more tropical complexity
2021 Spinifex Clairette Barossa Valley, SA
Pete's mastery with Southern French white varieties is on clear display yet again, striking a harmonious balance between impressive weight, silky texture and fresh acidity. The maceration has provided an assertive grip, beautifully counterbalanced by concentrated flavour and a vibrant finish.
2021 Dilworth & Allain 'Moonambel' Blanc Pyrenees, VIC
Chris and Loique worked with some great producers in Australia, Italy and France before starting their own negociant business and settling in Hepburn in 2017. Their blanc is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Sauvignon Blanc and is unmistakably delicious. It has a svelte structure, gliding elegantly over the palate and finishing with lemon curd punctuation. We’ll drink too much of this but won’t regret it…
2021 BK Wines 'Carbonic' Chardonnay Adelaide Hills, SA
This is chardonnay designed to be enjoyed fresh and young. It sees the full carbonic maceration treatment as itS name would suggest and some mild skin contact. It is a short story about white peach and white flowers, that ends with a crisp apple candy full stop.
