Region: Alsace, FRA
Variety: Damson Plum, dosaged with Riesling
The Dietrich family has farmed land in Alsace since 1600. In the past the family farm usedto be run on the basis of polyculture however the family now concentrate on growinggrape vines and other fruit. In 1999 Yves converted the estate to organic farming (at thetime he would sell his grapes to the local cave-cooperative). Pierre and Jean took overthe responsibility of the winery in 2016, and were the first members of the family to bottle the estate’s wines. The estate has been farmed with biodynamics ever since 2003. The domaine contains 18.5 hectares of vines and also 6 hectares of fruit trees from which the family also produces Pet-Nats from black and red cherries, damson and victoria plums.
An adventurous Pét-Nat from Alsace made using a base wine of plum (foot stomped and fermented dry) with <5% unfermented Riesling added to each bottle to promote naturally occurring effervescence. Plenty of yeasty bits and sediment to this wine so you can disgorge it yourself or choose to reincorporate the lees for a textural wonderland. But please use caution when opening, this wine is explosive!
