Place: Chalmers Vineyard — Heathcote, VIC
You could easily mistake this for good Chianti. It balances sweet and savoury characters very well, the tannins are many and dusty, and it is charming with red sauce.
The fruit is sourced from the Chalmers vineyard in Heathcote where vineyard manager Troy McInnes works hard to employ organic practices—a feat for a vineyard of this size. It’s then transported to central Victorian wizkid Tim Sproal where considered and varied winemaking turn the good fruit into great wine. A strong case for the variety in the shiraz-dominated region.
