Kevin McCarthy travelled extensively across northern Italy in the late nineties to study their best Pinot Grigios, intensifying a fascination with the wines of Friuli. He, alongside wife and co-founder Kathleen Quealy, has bottled orange-hued bottles from Friulian grapes on the Mornington Peninsula for almost two two decades.
Through their new and collaborative project, MDI (Murray-Darling Italian), they are taking it up another notch. In Kev’s words: “This wine has never been made before. Half a year on skins and then French oak. Unheard of in modern white wine. We made the pilgrimage so you can drink it.”
