Hamish Young is doing great things for Canberra. His wines are affable and approachable without lacking in seriousness or structure. This Rouge exemplifies those qualities, bringing together the unlikely third of nebbiolo to the shiraz/cabernet party with finesse. He works it a little to extract colour, tannin and texture, and it works to great effect.
It’s slightly herbaceous, slightly jubey, and undeniably delicious. The vinous equivalent of Hugh Jackman—understated yet ebullient.
