Place: Adelaide Hills, Sa
Variety: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Steve Crawford started his Barossa label under the pseudonym of Frederick Stevenson whilst working at a larger winery. Now, flying solo, Steve's minimalist, vibrant vinos are garnering plenty of attention for the lighter shade of the region that they portray.
The idea was to gain all of the acid and liveliness from the early picked Chardonnay and a little fruit sweetness, roundness and colour from the Pinot Noir bleedings. The Chardonnay is very much the leading hand, barrel fermented whilst the Pinot was fermented in tank. Bottled in May 2021 with a little procrastination and distraction involved with the label process. The ‘slow’ release of the wine has allowed for a little more yeast derived characters to come through and more roundness in the bubbles. – Notes from Steve Crawford
