Young vine Grenache from Humis vineyard in Heathcote (where the Carm and Marsanne come from). We picked it early at 10 Baume due to the young vines struggling to hold the weight of the fruit.
We split it into two ferments one that was 100% whole bunch and the other destemmed. Both were pumped over every second day as we didn’t want to extract too much colour or tannin. Pressed after 3 weeks to old barriques. Bottles after 5 months with only 15ppm s02.
We really love elegant Grenache from Spain that has structure and a savoury fruit profile. And I think we came close to pulling that off. Purple floral aromatics, light in bodied and refreshing red fruits are all on show here. Can’t wait to see what this fruit does as the vines mature. Grenache is perfect for the red dirt in northern Heathcote. Notes from Lawrence Scanlon.
