Tremayne Smith is part of a new league of South African winemakers seeking to push beyond the country’s reputation for producing heavy, high alcohol, red wines. Smith takes advantage of old dry-farmed bush vines to harvest beautiful Cinsault grapes with concentrated aromatic and flavour compounds. He then ferments the must in steel tanks to preserve the characteristically bright notes of red currant, strawberry, black pepper and violets while maintaining the dusty tannic structure and grip of this crunchy mineral driven treat.
