Region: Abruzzo, ITA
Located in the village of Pianella, in the heart of Abruzzo, Iole Rabasco inherited her family’s small 3.5ha vineyard and olive grove – which have never been treated with chemicals. The vines across the property – almost all Montepulciano, with a couple rows of Trebbiano – are quite old, growing on calcareous clay mixed with alluvial sediment and fossils. Vines are all worked by hand and yields are kept low.
This Bianco is crafted from Trebbiano fermented in fibreglass with some time on skins via a very slow pressing. No racking until bottling, no sulphur added. It ripples across the palate with a citrusy wake conjuring notes of lemon, green pear and a mumble of apple cider vinegar – in the most refreshing, nourishing sense. A high voltage of acidity and Autumn leaf crunchy texture wakes you up.
