Region: Rheinhessen, GER
Variety: (Macerated) Huxelrebe, Wurzer and Muller Thurgau
Marto Wines is located in Flonheim, a small village in the Rheinhessen region of Germany. Helmed by Martin Worner, who after studying oenology in Germany, worked with Tom Lubbe at Matassa and Steph and Eddie at Gut Oggau. In 2014 he decided to return home to start taking care of the family vineyards. The vineyards are on sandy soils and are organically farmed. Everything is fermented whole bunch with elevage in barrel. No fining or filtration and no added sulphur.
Just the second vintage of pet nat, it's salty and savoury, skinsy and citrus pith, curd and lemonade fruit. Orangina, peaches, an abundance of citrus fruit and phenolics. Refreshing acidity and devilishly moreish. This is an undisgorged pet nat, and whilst its not as lively as previous vintages (ie it wont explode), it is best to serve well chilled.
