Place: Ribera del Duero, ESP
From his home in Ribera del Duero, Alfredo Maestro makes this Tempranillo. The fruit comes from Vina Almate, the first vineyard Alfredo ever planted, comprising old bush vines grown on various plots that are all at least 700m above sea level.
Hand harvested fruit comes into the winery as perfect whole clusters and thrown into ferment as they are. This results in a lighter, spicier, more fruit-forward style of Tempranillo which is meant to be drunk with gusto whilst in its youth.
