Place: Alba — Piedmont, Italy
Gianfranco Alessandria runs this small estate with his wife Bruna and young daughter Vittoria. They farm 5.5ha of estate vines, plus an additional 1.5ha that they rent.
This barbera is hand-harvested from a small parcel grown on tufa-limestone-clay/sand soil. It’s fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel then aged for two months in used French oak barriques before being bottled unfiltered. It’s plush, incredibly moreish and ideal for the odd cool summer night.
