Region: Barossa Valley, SA
Peter Schell and Magali Galy have carved out quite a reputation for themselves. Having spent extended periods in the south of France, they developed an affection for the Rhône Valley and the grapes endemic to it. This is the first wine made from the Dominion vineyard which is their second estate vineyard after their purchase of Rostein in the Eden Valley in 2014. 2019 has produced some monstrous wines from Barossa, densely-fruited and laden with hard, angular tannins, but this, although full, powerful and rich, is elegant and graceful, showing how deft winemaking during strenuous vintages can really make all the difference. Some of the fruit is over 100-years-old and provides complexity and intrigue, whilst the younger parcels imbue the wine with adolescent exuberance. This balance ensures a long life, so although drinking well now, it will be fully fledged in a decade (or more).
