Region: Canberra, ACT & Hilltops, NSW
Mallaluka is a family affair in the Canberra district of NSW. These estate-grown wines are made by second generation vigneron Sam Leyshon who has most recently learnt to ply his trade assisting Bryan Martin and Tim Kirk at Clonakilla. These are modern wines that reflect the changing face of this exciting region. He makes wines with a wild side, they are made with minimal intervention and are insane value for money.
Mostly Mallaluka fruit with a small portion from another Canberra district vineyard, just down the road. Unlike the Syrah, we do not use stems at all. Aged for 18 months in seasoned French Oak Barriques. 2019 was quite a hot year and this wine shows the strength of the sun in its fruit, yet retains the classic spiciness that we are so used to in this region. A high acid driven wine that begs for rich and savoury foods to enjoy with. No fining or filtration used, minimal SO2 added.
