Region: Mornington Peninsula, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
Barney Flanders Consistently makes some of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay Australia has to offer. A man blessed with two Simpsons names, he has been quietly raising the bar of wines from the Mornington Peninsula for over a decade.
Cuve Beton means concrete tank, and this new bottling was fermented and raised in a single 5000-litre concrete vessel (from renowned Italian tank maker Nico Velo). Barney first experimented with this tank in 2017, and found a noticeable difference in the finished wine: the concrete-raised Pinot displayed more chalky drive and a different tannin profile. The vessel's gentle transfer of oxygen and the cooler thermal mass made a noticeable difference and Cuve Beton was born. Smoky and sappy. Crunchy freshness with fine, soft tannins. Another exceptional example of the shire.
