Region: Carema - Alto Piedmont, Italy
Variety: Nebbiolo, Nerd-Ala (Nebbiolo biotype)
Chiussuma's vineyard is located north of Torino on the border with Valle d'Aosta and is named after the nearby waterfall.
Carema’s viticulture is based on terraced vineyards and a stone pergola system designed to give the vines maximum exposure to the sun. These tiny plots range between 300m and 600masl and are so difficult to farm that Nebbiolo production here costs 50% more than in Barolo.
The result is a pure alpine expression of nebbiolo and its various biotypes, of which this is 90/10 blend.
There's a marked pinosity here. It's light, elegant and ripe—a vin de soif with a last minute pinch of fine and firm tannins.
