Region: Heathcote, VIC
Chef turned sommelier turned winemaker, Adam Foster is a man of many talents and has turned his attention to the vineyard where he crafts exceptional, Rhone-inspired wines of stature and finesse. Syrahmi is a combination of Syrah and the French ‘ami’ meaning friend. The idea being a ‘friendly Shiraz’ or a ‘friend of Shiraz’, either way we’ve always been friendly with his wine. Fruit from the only certified organic vineyard in Heathcote, meticulously farmed by Carl Brown. Named XV as it is Adam's fifteenth vintage.
'2018 was a year of low yields but exceptional quality, perhaps one of the greatest vintages in the last ten years. The extreme heat in Jan and Feb meant for smaller berries, which provided rich colour, concentrated flavour and lovely tannins. A riot of perfume encompassing ripe wild blackberries, baked red earth and dry sage herb, smoked meats/charcuterie, bergamot tea and black olive. Complex with intense energy. Ultra fine savoury tannin. Long, deep and complex with rich dark fruits, the ripeness of the vintage has still left the wine with freshness for a very long future ahead.' - note from the winemaker, Adam Foster
