Place: Mornington Peninsula, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
Barney Flanders consistently makes some of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay Australia has to offer. A man blessed with two Simpsons names, he has been quietly raising the bar of wines from the Mornington Peninsula for over a decade.
Garagiste's first harvest for a sparkling base took place roughly two weeks before the Merricks vineyard table wines. Barney picked with depth of flavour and freshness in mind. The wine stayed on lees for 26 months. Wearing the lightest hint of colour, this is finely perfumed with a bright, red-fruited nose. The palate has great depth and intensity. It presents the kind of energy and purity that we expect of Merricks Pinot. Cranberry, white strawberry and florals with juicy, crunchy freshness. This is a terrific wine, with delivering an elegance well beyond its price.
