Region: Côte de Beaune – Burgundy, FRA
Variety: Pinot Noir
The value of lesser-known appellations like Maranges at the southern end of the Côtes de Beaune has always been there. Now the wine quality is coming along very nicely as well. The producers at Domaine des Rouges Queues work with 6ha spread throughout Maranges, Santenay and the Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune using certified Biodynamic practices to achieve the clearest expression of the vineyards. They ferment whole bunches of grapes with indigenous yeasts in open-top wooden barrels for up to two weeks before letting the wines rest in large neutral barrels for a year. What comes out of those barrels is succulent ripe, black and red cherry aromas and flavours laced with rose petals and notes of forest floor and incense. Silk textured tannins and a crushed pebble mineral note round out the experience from this warm, generous vintage. Since it comes in a magnum, you can enjoy it with even more friends.
