Region: Saint Joseph - Rhone Valley, FRA
This is made with fruit from the northernmost area: Chavanay and Malleval, on east- and southeast-facing granite slopes. The fruit is hand-harvested, destemmed, fermented, then matured for 18 months in French oak barriques from Allier and Nevers, 10% new. It's a light-bodied style, with subtle and refined tannins, juicy berry acidity and remarkable length given the lightness of touch. A harmonious, subtle, saline, mineral expression - not for long ageing, but for sheer drinkability this is hard to beat.
