Words from the winemaker Pat:

From the renown Bannockburn Vineyards, specifically the ’winery block’ established in 1990, with a combination of PT23 and unknown clones, on Schwatzmann and own roots.

Grown by Lucas Grigsby with Matt Holmes. This wine was from rows of PT23 on own roots.

The 2017 vintage was interesting in its overall lighter weight, lower sugar levels, healthy acidity and wonderful complexity of flavour and phenolics. I believe the best wines in 2017 were those not left excessively long on the vine.

Picked early, 75% of the fruit was fermented destemmed with a small (5% ish) layer of whole bunch placed on the bottom of the stainless steel fermenter, pressed after four weeks or so with gentle plung- ing or occasional pump overs depending on the feel and smell of the wine. The other 25% being fermented as whole bunches in a small carbonic vessel, untouched for a week followed by a few days of gentle foot trod before pressing.

Rested in stainless for around one month before going to old, larger size french oak. One of the three barrels received sulphur as it was filled, the others remained without over winter and spring.
