Region: Meursault – Burgundy, FRA
Varieties: Pinot Noir
The La Pièce Sous le Bois vineyard sits atop a southeast facing slope, just below a forest, near the border with Puligny-Montrachet to the south. This is one of very few appellations within the Côte de Beaune where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grow side by side in the same parcel and wines of both colours are given 1er Cru status.
Thierry Matrot and his wife Pascale tend just under 1.5ha of vines in this vineyard and consider it one of their most prized holdings. Medium-bodied, mineral-driven Pinot Noirs are filled with well-defined notes of fresh red berries, plums, rose petals and incense. Fine silk textured tannins coupled with well-integrated acid structure provide a lingering finish to this little gem from an excellent vintage.
