Region: Rüst – Burgenland, AUT
Variety: Gelber Muskateller
The Ausbruch style of botrytis affected sweet wine from Rüst has been famous for centuries. In fact it was so famous that in the 17th century, the local government convinced one monarch to grant the town independence so long as they paid tribute to him by sending him their magnificent sweet wines. Wenzel’s Ausbruch wines are considered some of the best examples of the style, even amongst local winemakers. There is an explosion of dried stone fruit, ginger, dried orange peel, dried leaves, exotic spices, quince and honey coming from every glass. There isn’t a hint of cloying stickiness about this wine. The acid structure pulls it across the palate before the next sip. After trying this wine you may think that the king wasn’t so crazy.
