Region: Vigna Rionda, Serralunga d'Alba — Piedmont, ITA
Founded by Giovanni Massolino in 1896, this is a historic winery rich in wine-hued history. 125 years on and the winery and family continue to represent the Piemontese ideal farming 23 hectares of beautiful vineyards including the celebrated slopes of Margheria, Parafarda and the particularly esteemed Vigna Rionda. They produce classic expressions from these vineyards that unfailingly inspire and impress, often the talk of the table they are being enjoyed at.
'This is still a youthful ruby-garnet colour, with a powerful, spicy nose of dark fruits with hints of marzipan, pepper and tobacco. There's remarkable depth of flavour on the palate, with sumptuous, smoky, dark chocolate-toned fruit and a rich, dense texture. It's long and satisfying with strong notes of liquorice and tobacco to the finish. A Barolo of great purity and assurance, demonstrating the power, precision and ageworthy character that distinguishes the best wines of the Serralunga valley. Drink 2025-2035.' — Decanter
