Region: Gippsland, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir
Expression of time and place is the ever elusive desire of the vigneron. Bill Downie has honed his craft over many vintages between Australia and France, experimenting unapologetically in constant search of purer expression. Well and truly settled in bucolic Gippsland and producing wine of uncompromising quality, he has honed his focus to the alluring charms of Pinot Noir. These wines speak earnestly of where they are from and with Bill’s critical palate, the wines only ever improve. A superb, limited release.
From an East facing plot of red volcanic soil. A core of bright red fruit. Herbal and spicey at once. There's a real freshness here that tells of an enticing underlying greenness. Taut, bright acidity and chalky grip. Lovely length. A certain Toni Morrison-esque genial elegance.
