2019 Fallow 'Sangio!' Pinot Noir, Sangiovese
Region: Yarra Valley, VIC
Variety: Pinot Noir, Sangiovese
Organic farming, no sulphur
Fallow began with a love of made things. Winemaker, Spike, started baking sourdough, making home brewed beer and curing meats. From a barrel of Pinot he made in the family shed, the label has grown to five different wines and cider made in an urban winery in Healesville. They organically farm just over a hectare of grapes across two Yarra Valley sites and work closely with select growers for their other wines. Their belief being that good wine is grown in the vineyard and guided in the winery with the least intervention possible. The wines are raw, vivacious and fun, at once delicious and intriguing.
Confusingly, this is actually 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Sangiovese, because, you know, why not? It’s tangy, spicy and bright. Made as their vino da tavola, it’s designed to be enjoyed generously with food. It has a nice lightness from the Pinot rounded out by the Sangiovese. Molto drinkable, molto delicious.
